The stronger the Internal Market, the better for the Circular Economy

26 January 2017

On 24 January 2017, the European Parliament’s ENVI committee voted its draft reports on the Commission’s proposals for amending the Waste Directive and a series of related directives, including on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). This legislation is of central importance to the manufacturers Orgalime represents, who today employ over 10.9 million people across the EU. Orgalime was pleased to see clear progress in areas such as a stricter approach to landfill and recycling targets, and a number of important improvements to preserve a functioning internal market for products. But there is still some way to go to arrive at a final Directive that strikes the right balance between the requirements of the Circular Economy and the Internal Market.
