Published: 14 February 2007

Policies & Issues: R&D and Innovation

Besides its leading role as a major exporter, the engineering industries provide enabling technology to all other industrial sectors of the EU and thus play a key role in the innovation capacity and competitiveness of the European economy as a whole.

Orgalime therefore welcomes in this position paper the Commission’s efforts to create a more innovation-friendly environment and supports this proposal for a EU innovation strategy.  We believe that it is of paramount importance to achieve framework conditions which foster both the capacity to create new knowledge (research), and the ability to translate this knowledge into innovation.

In the paper Orgalime comments specifically on education systems, on the EIT, on IPR protection which is essential for our industry both in the EU and on export markets, on financial and fiscal incentives, as well as on the concept of lead markets.
